Tell AI what kind of summary you need and who will use it. Ask it to keep important details, separate decisions from open questions, and mark anything it cannot tell from the notes.
“Summarize these meeting notes.”
A short summary may still miss the details you need to act.
“Using these sample notes, list the three main points, decisions made, and action items. Mark missing owners or dates as ‘not specified’ instead of guessing.”
A clear format helps you review the result against the original notes.

Turn source notes into a checked summary
New to working between a lesson and an AI assistant? Read the beginner’s guide. It also explains a paper-only approach; no paid service is required.
Privacy: Use made-up, de-identified, or explicitly approved notes only. Follow your employer’s AI policy; do not paste confidential meeting, employee, customer, or business information into an unapproved service.
Worked example
Source notes: “Delivery expected Tuesday. Team to check supplies. Send an update Wednesday.” A safe summary keeps those facts, lists the two actions, and says the owner is not specified. It does not turn an expectation into a confirmed delivery.
Prompt to try
First write your goal and limits below. The prompt will use those notes.
Help me with this an accurate summary. Ask a question if something important is missing. Do not invent facts. Source notes and requested format (use sample or approved notes): [add your goal and limits] Give me a useful first draft, and list any assumptions I should check. Use only made-up, de-identified, or explicitly approved information. Follow my employer's rules; do not request confidential customer, employee, or business details.
Paste short fictional notes or notes you are allowed to share. Say whether you need key points, decisions, actions, or open questions.
Paste or summarize the result, including any decisions, actions, owners, or dates it reports.
Compare every claim with the source. Record an incorrect claim, omission, changed certainty, invented owner/date, or anything that should say ‘not specified.’
Write a shorter corrected version. Separate confirmed facts, decisions, actions, and unknowns; leave unsupported details out.
Practice without AI
Underline each fact in the source notes. Make one short summary sentence, then list actions separately. Add ‘not specified’ beside any missing owner or date.
Your notes save in this browser as you type. They are included in the learning-work JSON export.
Compare the summary with its source, save your corrected version, and mark this lesson complete when ready.
