Find an Idea to Build With AI

A useful project can start with something you want to make easier, clearer, or more enjoyable.

Building With AILesson 1 of 5

A useful project starts with a person, a need, and a size you can manage. AI can widen your options; choosing something that fits your life is your job.

Start with an interestGive AI a starting point
“I want to make something useful for my neighborhood.”

That gives AI a little direction, but it does not say what you enjoy or how much time you have.

Explore a few optionsKeep the project manageable
“I like helping new neighbors feel welcome. Suggest three small project ideas I could try in a weekend. Keep them low-cost, and tell me what information I would need to provide.”

For the continuing example, we choose a one-page neighborhood welcome guide. It has a clear audience and can begin as a paper draft without buying anything.

Choose by fit, not by excitement alone

A project is manageable when you can name who it helps, one thing it will help them do, and the time and resources you can actually give it. A broad idea like “improve the neighborhood” is hard to finish. “Help a new neighbor find three reliable starting points” gives you a small first step.

Ask AI for options that fit your limits. Compare them with what you know and care about. If an idea depends on permission, private information, money, or facts you cannot verify, narrow it or leave that part out.

Try it yourself

Choose one small project

Choose one project and record its audience, purpose, and available time or resources. Your notes become the starting point for the next four lessons.

Project Idea Card

Your notes save in this browser and are included in the dashboard’s learning-work export. They are not tied to a sign-in or synced to another device; clearing browser data can remove them. On paper, use the same headings and bring your notes to the next lesson.

AI can suggest, draft, and help you review. You make the decisions and choose what to keep.
