Describe the main subject, where it is, and the mood or colors you want. If the first image is close but not quite right, change one detail at a time.
“Make an image of a boat.”
That leaves many choices open, such as the setting, colors, and feeling.
“Create an original illustration of a small sailboat under a wide, starry sky. Use calm blue and gold colors, a peaceful mood, and simple paper-cut shapes.”
You can follow up with one change, such as moving the boat lower in the picture or making the sky brighter.

Make a visual brief and improve one detail
New to working between a lesson and an AI assistant? Read the beginner’s guide. It also explains a paper-only approach; no paid service is required.
Before sharing, remove names and sensitive details. Follow any workplace rules.
Worked example
A visual brief might describe a cozy reading corner by a rainy window, with warm colors and a peaceful mood. The learner checks whether the result shows the window, reading corner, and mood, then changes one detail such as brighter light. A written brief or paper sketch is a complete no-tool alternative.
Prompt to try
First write your goal and limits below. The prompt will use those notes.
Help me with this everyday task. Ask a question if something important is missing. Do not invent facts. Subject, setting, style, mood, and one constraint: [add your goal and limits] Give me a useful first draft, and list any assumptions I should check.
Describe an original scene in your own words. Include the main subject, setting, visual style or colors, mood, and one thing to leave out. Do not include private photos or someone’s likeness without permission.
If an image tool is available, describe what appeared. Otherwise describe your thumbnail or visual brief. No image tool is required.
Did it show the requested subject and setting? Which details were missing or added unexpectedly? Is the image clear and suitable for its intended use?
Change one specific detail in the prompt or sketch and explain what you expect that change to improve.
Practice without AI
Draw a small rectangle as a picture frame. Sketch the subject and setting, then write three labels for color, mood, and one detail to change. Compare the sketch with your brief.
