Tell AI what you want to create, who it is for, and the feeling or length you have in mind. Then give specific feedback, such as “make it warmer,” “shorten the ending,” or “use simpler words.”
“Write a little story about a dog.”
AI can begin, but it does not know what kind of story you would enjoy.
“Write a short, playful story about a dog who finds a lost mitten on a snowy walk. Keep it gentle and end on a hopeful note.”
After reading it, ask for one change at a time and keep the lines you like.

Worked example
You want a gentle six-sentence story about a dog finding a mitten. Before asking for AI help, choose details you like—perhaps the dog’s curiosity and a hopeful ending. After the draft, keep one line, identify one line that sounds unlike you, and request one specific change.
Prompt to try
First write your goal and limits below. The prompt will use those notes.
Help me with this a short creative draft. Ask a question if something important is missing. Do not invent facts. Audience, purpose, voice, and one detail I want to keep: [add your goal and limits] Give me a useful first draft, and list any assumptions I should check.
Describe what you are making, who will read or hear it, the tone or length, and a phrase/detail that should remain yours.
Paste or summarize the draft. Mark the lines you like; do not treat the AI wording as final.
Note one line that sounds like you and one that does not. Check whether the tone, facts, names, length, and details match your goal.
Ask for one targeted change, then edit the result yourself. Keep your chosen line or detail and explain what you changed.
Practice without AI
Write a few lines yourself first. Underline a phrase you want to keep and circle one part to improve. Revise only that part, then read both versions aloud.
Your notes save in this browser as you type. They are included in the learning-work JSON export.
Save both drafts and your own revision, then mark this lesson complete when ready.
